CNAF Observes the Impact of Rupiah Weakening on the Vehicle Financing Industry

KONTAN.CO.ID - JAKARTA. PT CIMB Niaga Auto Finance (CNAF) is monitoring the impact of the weakening rupiah exchange rate on the automotive financing industry. The company assesses that this condition has the potential to impact financing demand and increase financing quality risks.

CNAF President Director Ristiawan Suherman explained that the short-term effects of the rupiah's weakening could put pressure on the financing industry, particularly on vehicle financing demand.

"The short-term weakening of the rupiah has the potential to impact the financing industry, particularly on vehicle financing demand, which may experience a slowdown," he told Kontan on Friday (May 29, 2026).

Furthermore, Ristiawan stated that rising vehicle prices could also put pressure on financing demand. This situation has the potential to increase financing quality risks if customer repayment capacity is also affected.

"These efforts are being made to ensure healthy and sustainable business growth amidst current economic challenges," he continued.

Entering the remainder of 2026, CNAF assesses that the automotive industry will still face various economic challenges and pressures. Nevertheless, the prospects for vehicle financing are expected to continue to grow moderately in line with the expectation of improving public purchasing power.

He also stated that motor vehicle financing remains a major contributor to the growth of the multifinance industry, although the growth rate is expected to moderate this year.

CNAF's strategy is to operate its business prudently, focusing on customer segments and profiles with good repayment capacity. Furthermore, the company is strengthening regular monitoring of its financing portfolio to anticipate future financing risks.

As of April 2026, CNAF's new financing disbursement for four-wheeled vehicles, both new and used, reached IDR 1.97 trillion.
