KONTAN.CO.ID - JAKARTA. Cases of forced vehicle withdrawals by debt collectors have been heard recently. Where, there was an unscrupulous debt collector who yelled at the police when pulling the car belonging to celebrity Clara Shinta.
Cases related to debt collectors pulling vehicles in the wrong way are not new.
Given this phenomenon, what are the duties of debt collectors who have often worked with multi-finance companies?
President Director of CIMB Niaga Auto Finance (CNAF) Ristiawan Suherman said that so far his party has been working with several companies providing debt collector services that have been certified in each region.
He said that these debt collectors were more tasked with finding vehicles from customers who felt they had disappeared and did not pay. If a new customer is late paying one to three months, an internal collection officer is on duty.
Ristiawan revealed, the success rate of each billing handled by debt collectors so far is smaller, which is around 20% - 30%.
"Of course, we usually give debt collectors the task of negotiating, where usually the customer doesn't have a unit, the success rate is definitely lower, because the level of difficulty is high," he said.
He also did not deny that there were debt collectors whose services were used by CNAF who also carried out inappropriate withdrawals. Usually, there are sanctions until the termination of cooperation is carried out.
Meanwhile, Chief Director of Clipan Finance Harjanto Tjitohardjojo revealed, the role of debt collectors so far has been to withdraw vehicles that have changed hands to other parties and whose whereabouts are not traced.
He explained that if there were customers who did not pay, internal collectors would warn them in advance. More than 30 days, the internal Field Collector team will make a visit.
"As long as the vehicle is still with the customer, we do direct billing, sometimes two arrears and the customer pays one installment first," he said.
Slightly different from CNAF, Harjanto said that the success rate of using debt collectors is still below 5% for vehicles that are lost and not traced.
"About 99% of vehicles recalled by debt collectors have moved to other parties, not customers," he explained.
He reminded that the withdrawal of vehicles can actually be avoided if customers are cooperative so they don't divert vehicles to other parties. According to him, there are several solutions for settlement of customer debt.
"The transfer of the unit to another party was due to bad customer intentions," he said.
